Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP)(formerly Section 8): rental subsidies to income-eligible individuals and households. Housing units are inspected for health and safety before rental assistance begins and at least once per year after. Applicants are ranked based on their application date and time. Current estimated wait list time is 24 to 36 months. Proof of residency documents are needed at time of application.

Offers rental assistance, homeownership counseling, and housing rehabilitation. Housing repair assistance. Processes HUD Section 8 Rental applications.

* Assists very low income families, elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly on behalf of the participating family and then family pays the difference.

Burns Apartments offers one-bedroom apartments to senior citizens and the disabled for 30% of their adjusted gross income. This is a six-story building with 99 units, 20 of which have been adapted for the disabled. Cats or small dogs are allowed. There is a regular shopping bus, a community room and scheduled activities, a garden and gazebo area, milk delivery, meals on wheels and newspaper regular delivery.

Administers the Section 8 rent subsidy program which provides regular rent payment assistance to low-income families.

* Provides an extended stay residential rooming house with month-to-month stay, primarily for adults with limited income and/or on long term assistance. If renter is an agency client, agency pays rent directly. Furnished room with bed, dresser, all utilities included. Door is monitored 24/7. No visitors allowed.

Provides 8 one-bedroom, 8 two-bedroom and 8 three-bedroom apartments. One to three bedroom apartments for individuals who meet income guidelines. Elderly typically reside in the one-bedroom apartments which are one-level and handicapped accessible.

Raymond Watkins Apartments offers one-bedroom apartments to senior citizens and the disabled for 30% of their adjusted gross income. This is a seven-story building with 111 units, 13 of which are adapted for the disabled. Pets are allowed. There is a service coordinator, a community room, off-street parking, a laundry room, and a TV-computer room. There are also shopping buses.

510+ reasonably priced, high quality, well-maintained apartments, from studios to four-bedroom units, marjority are in the city near services. Embury Apartments is a 192 unit apartment complex opened in 1972 to serve low to middle income independent seniors. It is a 14-story building with elevators. Pets are allowed. Studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments are available. Each apartment has an emergency pull cord. There are resident lounges, laundry facilities, vegetable and flower gardens, and a library of books and DVDs and educational and cultural programs.. It is on the bus line and a shopping bus is available. There is a security staff and there are no steps or stairs.
