Working closely with Economic Development and Planning Divisions, the Division of Real Estate is responsible for acquiring, maintaining and disposing of all County real property; providing services related to real property for the executive, administrative and legislative branches of County government; generating revenues for the County; and controlling expenses pertaining to the maintenance of County-owned property. The Division also supports the County’s Affordable Housing programs, Community Development programs and the Suffolk County Landbank. The division is comprised of the following units: Real Property Acquisition and Management; Affordable and Workforce Housing; Auction and Direct Sales and Request For Qualifications. Responsible for the acquisition, sale, lease and management of the City of Buffalo's Real Property Assets, including properties that have been abandoned for public use (former schools, libraries, firehouses, etc.) and properties that have been acquired through city tax foreclosure (In-Rem). Properties are located throughout the City of Buffalo and consist of vacant land, residential structures, and commercial structures. Also coordinates all real property transactions for the Office of Strategic Planning, city departments and agencies in the planning, development and redevelopment of downtown, waterfront and neighborhood projects.
