Offers temporary help for individuals and families in need while they work towards self sufficiency.

Family Assistance (FA) provides money for families with children. Cash benefits are limited to five years in a recipient's lifetime. After five years, a Family Assistance case may continue to receive benefits if an adult is disabled and cannot work or may be required to apply for assistance through the Safety Net category.

Safety Net Assistance (SNA) provides money for basic living expenses for single adults and childless couples (or families who have used up their 5-year limit of FA). Cash benefits are limited to two years in a recipient's lifetime. After two years, the non-cash Safety Net Assistance voucher system provides benefits.

Emergency Temporary Assistance through Emergency Assistance for Families (EAF) or Emergency Safety Net Assistance (ESNA) provides assistance for crisis situations including evictions, moving expenses, utility shutoffs, help with food expenses, and diversion payments to help individuals avoid the need for ongoing assistance. Individuals do not need to be on public assistance to receive Emergency Temporary Assistance.

As of 11/23, we are only taking HSSP intakes for the waitlist in case future funding is available. If the client is currently in eviction court, or is in eviction court after 01/15/2022, they may be eligible to complete an intake for HSSP cohort 4.Provides financial support to residents of the City of Ithaca who are at risk of displacement in the form of $300/month in basic income for 18 months. Tenants must be under 30% AMI and a City of Ithaca resident to apply.

The Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) Program provides funding for five component services: Street Outreach to engage homeless individuals and families living on the street Emergency Shelter to improve the number and quality of emergency shelters for homeless individuals and families Homeless Prevention to prevent families/individuals from becoming homeless Rapid Re-Housing to move families form shelter to permanent housing HMIS Homeless Management Information System or comparable data base costs The one ESG component that assists the public directly is Homeless Prevention. Most ESG monies are not accessible directly to the public. If you are homeless in Nassau County, you may be benefiting from ESG if you are in a shelter that is sub-granted ESG Program funds. These funds may assist with staffing, operational costs, food for people staying in the shelter, and other items. If you are in a shelter and your household comes up on the Coordinated Entry List maintained by the local Continuum of Care (CoC), you may be offered Rapid Re-Housing services funded by ESG. There are several Rapid Re-Housing programs operating in Nassau County.
Provides a food pantry, a full lunchtime meal, clothing, furniture, referrals, advocacy and direct services consisting of rent assistance, prescriptions, LIPA, telephone and water payments when appropriate, bus fare, etc.

New York State ERAP applications WILL NOT be accepted after January 20, 2023, at 9:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. Individuals will not be able to submit applications in the portal, or complete applications that have been started but not submitted, after January 20, 2023 at 9:00 pm. Applications submitted before the application portal closes on January 20, 2023 will continue to be processed in the order received, consistent with State law and program rules. OTDA is currently reviewing and processing eligible ERAP applications submitted through October 31, 2022. Additional applications are expected to be reviewed and processed in the future as funds become available. After the portal closes to new applications, tenants and landlords may continue to upload required documentation for pending submitted applications. Provide rental assistance to pay back rent to low and moderate income households at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability by providing rental arrears, temporary rental assistance and utility arrears assistance. Households eligible for rental arrears may also be eligible for help paying utility arrears at the same rental unit, utility arrears cannot be applied for without owing rental arrears.
Provides assistance to veterans who are struggling with housing or utility issues, such as eviction prevention, housing search, or utility payment help.
