The Office for the Aging offers many services for the senior residents of Steuben County including, but not limited to, information and referral, nutrition through congregate meals, advocacy, support groups, transportation services, caregiver services, case management, and the Bone Builders and Senior Meal Programs. Bone Builders and the Senior Dinner Clubs are overseen by Pro Action of Steuben-Yates.

Rents, sells, repairs and installs new and used mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, scooters, ramps, stair, patient and pool lifts and medical equipment to individuals on Long Island and the tri-state area. Offers the services of a certified aging-in-place specialist to assist with an evaluation of the individuals's living situation, recommendation of medical equipment and mobility products and provides information on assisted living and senior care services.

SAIL offers individuals with disabilities, family members, and other interested parties information, advice, and assistance with overcoming architectural barriers occurring in any privately or publicly owned residence, business, constructed facility, or proposed building or facility. Where requested, the center provides detailed plans and written advice, as well as information concerning funding sources and availability. SAIL provides information, advice, and assistance to individuals with disabilities and family members concerning and/or retaining housing, including accessible and affordable housing. When necessary, assistance is provided for completing housing applications and communicating with landlords. Information is also provided concerning tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities.

Provides consultation to individuals and businesses to help make homes and establishments barrier free. Recommends most inexpensive and efficient ways to make building accessible to people with disabilities.This service is free to consumers and families. There is a charge to businesses and organizations.

Purchases and installs modular aluminum ramp systems for use by older persons.Agency retains ownership of ramps: when a household no longer needs the ramp, it is removed, reconfigured and installed for use by another household.

Provides grant assistance to low-income homeowners who are experiencing critical home repairs. Assists with a wide range of repairs, rehabilitation and modification services.

Visits site and prepares cost estimate, including labor, materials and building permit cost, if applicable. Prices depend on material used, size and whether temporary or permanent.

A NYS program that helps low- and moderate-income homeowners pay for critical repairs. To qualify, a household's total income must be below 80% of the area median income. Volunteers help the elderly, handicap and low income families with major home repairs such as roof repair, heating, hot water heaters and ramp construction.

This program is designed to permit persons with disabilities to maintain residence or achieve residence either in their own homes or in rental units where other assistance is not available. Repairs will be limited to accessibility issues only.

* Offers the Home-Safe-Home program. Provides home safety review geared toward fall prevention. Minor home modifications such as installation of grab bars, smoke detectors, door grips, accessible toilet seats and hand rails.
