Our mission is to rescue fresh, nutritious food that would otherwise be thrown away from stores and farms and redistribute it to neighbors in need throughout Tompkins County and beyond. We provide food donations to community programs, including meal programs, food pantries, low-income housing communities, and grassroots distribution. Each week 2,000 people are served, and nearly 1,400 pounds of good food is diverted each day from the landfill.A network of 200 volunteers and one part-time employee accomplish those goals with the food donations from local supermarkets, bakeries, dining halls, farmers, and food processors. Sponsors chapters that share free vegetarian food, clothing, books, school supplies and other essentials at weekly "Food Shares". Accepts donations of vegetarian produce, clothing and material goods. Recovers food from area businesses and institutions for distribution to 50 area agencies and meal programs.

A variety of volunteer opportunities exist including food rescue volunteers who assist in the delivery of surplus food from commercial food donors to member agencies, special events volunteers, office assistants, and volunteers to help with educational and community programs, including Speakers' Bureau. Special volunteer projects are available for groups, students, adults, and corporate employees.
