Consumer Complaints are investigated by our Consumer Protection Investigators who work diligently with contractors and businesses to resolve consumer issues. Our Licensing Department licenses and regulates many businesses, which operate in Nassau County. Consumers have the ability to Search businesses with valid licenses function on the website. The Weights and Measures Division inspects and tests the accuracy of all scales in retail establishments located in Nassau County, to ensure that they are correct. Gas pumps and heating oil delivery trucks are also tested for accuracy and to confirm that the amount of product dispensed is correct. The Taxi & Limousine Division regulates and issues licenses to “for hire” vehicle drivers (other than Uber and Lyft) and registers “for hire” vehicles, such as prom limos. Provides consumer protection to Nassau residents and regulates unfair, deceptive, and unconscionable trade practices through the Investigations and Complaints Division. The Department of Consumer Affairs issues licenses and registrations to businesses. The Department is responsible for the administration of the Rules & Regulations governing the for-hire vehicle industry. The Weights and Measures Division performs mechanical testing, inspections, and sealing of all weighing and measuring devices used commercially or in public agencies to ensure accuracy and full measure for the consumer. The Information and Education Division develops and conducts programs of consumer education and information, increases the competence of consumers and encourages businesses to maintain high standards of honesty and fair trade practices.
