Description

The AmeriCorps Builds Lives through Education (ABLE) Early Childhood program mobilizes individuals in national service to revive and strengthen educational environments, expanding opportunities for today's youth. Individuals serving in the program work to enhance the quality and impact of early childhood programming in Western New York. Program focuses on early childhood school readiness and addresses the need for more prepared early childhood teachers to work with ethnically diverse, low-income urban populations. ABLE Early Childhood provides tools to help members build careers in early childhood education and more effectively prevent future academic and developmental delays for students. ABLE Early Childhood members serve full-time up to 10-months in early childhood classrooms, working with 3- 4-and 5-year-old children. Members serve alongside lead teachers and are coached on early childhood teaching techniques. ABLE Early Childhood also operates the ABLE Summer Learning program, for which members serve full-time for eight weeks during the summer helping to offset summer learning loss for students in grades K-12. AmeriCorps members receive a living stipend, education award, and other benefits while serving. Contact the program for more information.
