SPORTS JOURNALISM AND BROADCASTING | HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY CONTINUING EDUCATION

Offers a program and certificate program to any teenager 12 to 18 years old. Our hands-on curriculum centers around teaching the fundamental skills needed for the sports journalism and broadcasting industry. Our instructors and guest speakers are current industry professionals working either at the High School, Collegiate or Professional ranks. Our instructional staff has work affiliations with the following sports media organizations: Major League Baseball (MLB), National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), National Hockey League (NHL), ESPN, CBS Sports Network, CBS Sports Radio, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, News 12 Varsity Long Island and News 12. We offer classroom learning and hands-on training activities for all of our programs. Students will learn to develop and hone their skills in the following areas: Research and Preparation; Writing; Interviewing (In-person, Skype, and Phone) with Division I Athletic Coaches and/or Special Industry Guests; Radio Anchoring, Hosting and Updates; Television Anchoring and Updates; Reporting; Round Table Hosting; Sports Debating; Post-Production Producing & Editing; Sports Broadcasting Fundamentals (Play-by-Play and Color Commentary); Utilization of a Teleprompter and Vocal Coaching.
