Rabies Information and Free Clinics | Chemung County Health Department - Main Site

Offers regularly scheduled rabies clinics throughout the county for cats, dogs and ferrets. Also provides information about rabies and animal bites/exposures. Clinics are provided in cooperation from the Chemung County SPCA and Health Department. Takes and responds to reports of rabid animals and bites. If bitten, scratched or have had contact with the saliva of an animal that is believed rabid, wash the wound immediately and contact a health care provider. If treatment is recommended, call immediately to determine where treatment should be received. If there is any chance of exposure to a bat through an inapparent bite, for example, a bat had direct contact with someone, or was in a room with a sleeping individual call immediately to discuss the situation.

Application process

Call or go to website for rabies information. Go to Facebook or website for current clinic schedule. Must pre-register through form on website. Call immediately to report a suspected rabid animal or bite.

Fee

No fee. Donations accepted for clinics.

Eligibility

For clinics, pet must be at least 3 months old, and have proof of previous vaccinations to receive 3 year certificates. Animals must be leashed, securely confined and accompanied by a responsible adult. Available to any New York State resident.
