Prosecutes all cases involving sexual assault, domestic violence, abuse of vulnerable persons and child abuse. The Bureau contains two specialized units: The Human Trafficking Unit and the Elder Abuse Unit. The Elder Abuse Unit investigates and prosecutes any crimes of physical violence against persons 65 years or older committed by family members or caregivers, whether in a facility or at home. The Unit is a part of the Nassau County Enhanced Multi-Disciplinary Team that works with Adult Protective Services, Nassau County Office for the Aging, and other agencies that collaborate to review allegations of suspected elder abuse, provide support and resources for victims and their families, and prosecute cases when appropriate. The Human Trafficking Unit is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all Sex Trafficking charges and any prostitution-related crimes. It also handles cases pending in the Human Trafficking Intervention Court, where individuals charged with Prostitution and similar offenses are provided with assistance and services. The Human Trafficking Unit offers constant training to ADAs, members of law enforcement and the community in order to help identify these cases early and prevent trafficking within Nassau County.
