Solid Waste Management Division manages waste in a manner that is environmentally sound, cost effective, socially responsible, and safe. This is accomplished through coordinated administrative, operational, and educational projects in waste reduction, reuse, recycling, composting and household hazardous waste management disposal.See THE RE-DIRECTORY: A GUIDE TO REUSE IN TOMPKINS COUNTY for information on how to recycle specific items.DISASTER SERVICE: Call 273-6632 to request a waiver on the solid waste "tipping fee" for flood-damaged goods.GARBAGE TAGS: Call 273-6632 for the list of the dates of the City of Ithaca recycling. The City of Ithaca's telephone number for garbage pick up is 272-1718. If garbage is collected by a commercial hauler, call the hauler to find out where its garbage tags may be purchased (see phone book yellow pages under "Rubbish & Garbage Removal"). The Department of Social Services has a program which can provide trash tags for its clients for free; call 274-5245 for information.THE DEPOT (Tompkins County Hazardous Waste Management Facility): Tompkins County residents can discard household hazardous waste (paints, waste oil, antifreeze, garden and lawn chemicals, etc.) at THE DEPOT. Call 273-4496 (273-HHWM) to make an appointment to bring your hazardous waste to The Depot. You will need to complete a registration form and pay a user fee at the time of registration submission of $5.00 per visit. The Depot is located at the Recycling and Solid Waste Center at 122 Commercial Ave., Ithaca.
