Provides a free one-to-two year service dog training program for veterans with mental health disabilities. Teaching and coaching the veteran in the process of training their own dog to become their service dog. Both the training process and the end result of having a fully trained service dog helps the veterans cope with their specific disability. Helps veterans in the process of managing symptoms enough to take back control of their life. Helps veterans gain confidence and build positive relationships with their dog, their family, other veterans, and their community.

Eligibility

Must be able to have a dog where you liveMust live within 60 minutes of Binghamton, NY areaMust have resources to care for a dog (financial, physical, emotional, cognitive)Must have reliable transportation to attend training program and provide care for a dog (veterinary care, exercise, training practice in social settings, etc)Must be able to commit to weekly training sessions for one-to-two years. Must remain actively engaged with your mental health treatment professional for the duration of the training programMust have a written letter from your regular mental health treatment professional stating their support of your decision to train your own service dogMust have documentation of your disabilityMust be willing and able to keep your dog clean and well-groomed at all times
