Serves to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing breastfeeding support, information on healthy eating, nutritious foods to supplement diets, and referrals to health care. Operates and coordinates community health centers. Provides diagnostic and therapeutic medical care in the areas of prenatal, pediatric, and adult medicine. Manages the following Bureau and programs: Bureau of Chest Diseases; Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (Lead screening); Immunization Action Program (IAP); Maternal Infant Community; Health Collaborative (MICHC); Patient Advocate Unit (PAU); WIC Program (Women, Infants & Children Nutrition) and Suffolk County Correctional Facility’s Medical/Dental Units. The Division is also affiliated with nine family health centers located throughout Suffolk County.
