HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (HEAP) | RIVERHEAD CENTER
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a Federally funded program that assists eligible households in meeting their home energy needs. If eligible, you may receive one regular HEAP benefit per program year and could also be eligible for emergency HEAP benefits if you are in danger of running out of fuel or having your utility service shut off. The 2024-2025 Regular HEAP benefit opened on November 1, 2024. The 2024-2025 First and Second Emergency is scheduled to open January 2, 2025. The 2024-2025 Heating Equipment Repair and Replacement benefit opened on October 1, 2024. The 2024-2025 HEAP Clean and Tune benefit opened on October 1, 2024. The 2024-2025 Cooling Assistance Benefit is schedule to open on April 15, 2025.

Other low income households may apply online at www.mybenefitsny.gov or print an application at http://otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/apply/ or contact HEAP site for application. Emergency HEAP for households with utility disconnect notice, terminated or with less than 10 day fuel supply. Active Public Assistance/Food Stamp households call (Suffolk 631-853-8820). Non Public Assistance/Food stamp households apply at HEAP site. Equipment repair/Replacement of primary heating equipment. Apply at HEAP site. Cooling Assistance apply at HEAP site. Provides for the purchase and installation of one air conditioner per dwelling not to exceed a certain amount or a fan to eligible households. Participating Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) vendor list can be obtained at DSS office. Client is responsible to maintain air conditioner including to remove, cover, store, and/or reinstall the unit or after vendor installation.
