PRE AND POST HOME OWNERSHIP COUNSELING | COMMUNITY LAND TRUST OF SCHENECTADY
The Counseling Services Program is tailored to the needs of each customer as they actively work toward individually established goals to improve their financial hurdles to home ownership. Customers meet for at least one hour each month with a Homeowner Counselor. A six-hour home buyer education class detailing the process of purchasing and owning a home is taught once a month. There is one-on-one assistance in filing out forms required to apply for the program and mortgages. Assessments of individual financial management strengths and needs, and individualized assistance in setting and achieving goals in order to successfully qualify for a mortgage are provided. Credit reports are reviewed and clients are taught how to read and understand them. Pre-home ownership and post-home ownership counseling, credit counseling, debt counseling, budgeting, mortgage counseling, how to save, post-home ownership budgeting, savings counseling and mortgage management are available.

Works to revitalize neighborhoods and to improve the quality of life in low to moderate income designated areas in the city of Schenectady by providing home ownership opportunities using the Community Land Trust model. CLTS rehabilitates housing for low to moderate income families; recruits and educates homeowners; and advocates for local housing issues.
