Legislated in NYS as a response to injuries and deaths caused by drunk drivers. &nbsp;Provides a general deterrence approach with four major components:<br />1. Enforcement - includes 13 local police departments, sheriffs and state police. &nbsp;&nbsp;<br />2. Adjudication - includes public defenders, prosecution and magistrates. &nbsp;<br />3. Rehabilitation - includes an alcohol abuse counselor and a probation officer. &nbsp;&nbsp;<br />4. Education - includes many programs geared to raising public awareness with a particular focus on students in local schools.<br /><br />The program is entirely funded through drunk driving fines received through town, village, city and county courts. &nbsp;No Yates County tax dollars are involved.
