Under NY State Law, each county outside of NY City has a County Court. These courts comprise:<br />County Court - hears cases involved with any crimes or violations of law committed within the county. Family Court - hears cases involving children and families, juvenile delinquency, child protection, adoptions, support, paternity, foster care placement, etc.<br />Surrogate Court - hears cases involved with inheritance, such as probate of wills and administration of estates, etc.<br />Supreme Court - hears cases involved with negligence, divorces, contract and breach of warranty, etc.
