EDUCATION SERVICES | CHILD CARE COUNCIL OF NASSAU

Develops and offers professional development (training, coaching, and technical assistance) consistent with the New York State Core Body of Knowledge Core Competencies for all modalities of child care (Family, Group Family, Center and School Age). Council offers the New York State Office of Children & Family Services (NYS OCFS) mandated 15 hour Foundations in Health & Safety Training required for registration of licensing of new Family/Group Family providers; recruitment and business practices workshops; technical assistance for potential and new providers of all modalities, Medication Administration Training (MAT) required for those that administer medication to children in their program and The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential for early childhood education professionals.New York State Training and Technical Assistance Professional Credentialed specialists are available with expertise in infants and toddlers, preschool and elementary/middle school development, care and education. Council staff provide interactive in-person professional development at Council as well as at your location (through fee for service) as requested by programs and community agencies. Topics for training, coaching, and/or technical assistance include but are not limited tio all NYS OCFS required topics for the 30 hours of mandated training; child growth and development; responding to challenging behaviors; family and community relationships; culturally responsive practice; observation and assessment; environment and curriculum; health. safety and nutrition; coping with tragedy, trauma and disasters; professionalism and leadership; administration and management; NYS OCFS regulations; national accreditation self-studies; and professional development planning. Bilingual (English/Spanish) services are available.

CHILD CARE COUNCIL OF NASSAU

Acts as a central planning and coordinating agency for child care in Nassau County. Services include child care resource and referral, technical assistance, training for staff and family providers, administration of family day care support services, including Child and Adult Food Program, employer consultation on child care options, and community education, health services, and advocacy.Supplies vital child care services to parent, providers, employers, community agencies and communities across the county. Council services are flexible, respectful of individual choice and serve parents of all economic and ethnic groups. The services of Council include information on the components of quality child care; referrals to providers and programs; training and technical assistance to child care providers and programs, health care consultant services and, in coordination with Nassau County Department of Social Services, most recently, enrollment of legally exempt providers. Council is the sponsoring agency in Nassau County of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) that administers the United States Department of Agriculture program. The Council has successfully completed the Quality Assurance Program.Council conducts outreach and collaboration with varied community organizations, civic groups, school personnel, businesses and interested individuals to raise awareness of Council's services as well as to address public policy issues regarding child care. Council actively participates with other child care and early education agencies in statewide efforts to create a cohesive and comprehensive agenda in Nassau County and Albany, and for clarification, support and dissemination of statewide information. We are a member of Nassau County's Department of Social Services Title XX Advisory Council, to address issues of quality., affordability, and cost in child care especially for DSS clients.
