GUIDE DOG TRAINING PROGRAMS | GUIDING EYES FOR THE BLIND

Provides various training programs to fit the needs of qualified individuals to handle a guide dog. Training program includes proper use, care and handling of the guide dog in rural, suburban and urban settings. Residential Program - A 21 day residential program held 12 times a year with a small class size, about 12 per class. Special Needs Program- For students who, in addition to being legally blind, have a condition that affects their mobility, such as hearing impairments, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, etc. Action Program - An accelerated 10-day residential and 5-day in-home program for experienced guide dog users.Home Training Program - An in-home program for applicants who cannot attend the residential program

Eligibility

Individuals who are legally blind, age 16+ years, are ambulatory (cannot serve wheelchair users), and physically and psychologically able to handle a guide dogApplicants with a history of drug/alcohol addiction must be sober/clean for at least 1 year
