Offers a 60-hour training program created to assist entrepreneurs with starting or expanding their businesses. The Entrepreneurial Assistance program offers entrepreneurial training courses as well as technical and management seminars to those who are interested in starting or expanding their own businesses. Special efforts are made to recruit and select minorities, women, dislocated workers and persons with disabilities. The ten week program is designed for client entrepreneurs to interact in sixty hours business courses and seminars. Each class is three hours in duration. Client entrepreneurs receive one-on-one counseling, assistance with packaging business loans, mentor support, peer group support and a Small Business Resource Guide. A major requirement of the grant is the successful completion of a business plan by the participants. The Entrepreneurial Assistance Center is located in the Sally Ann Slacke Center on the Michel J. SUFFOLK COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Enrolls 21,000 students in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, at its three campuses in Selden, Brentwood and Riverhead. SCCC offers the Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.), and Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree, as well as a variety of certificate programs. It offers more than 100 degree and certificate options in business and legal studies; communications and the arts; computer science, engineering and technology; culinary arts and hospitality management; health, community and human services; education; liberal arts and sciences. Each year, Suffolk County Community College prepares students to enter the workforce upon graduation in such marketable areas as medical records, physical therapist assistant, paralegal, nursing, culinary arts and many other fields. Other students transfer to four-year colleges and universities to complete their baccalaureate degree.
